Steel Booted

You got the ump with me

But only in fantasy

Was I your traitor

Cos I’ve been on my best behaviour

Seems you got the flavour

For being cold and distant

With all your ammo pistoned

But I ain’t falling for the bullet

I ain’t getting in target’s way

Cos it’s still me that gets the blame

No matter how much truth

I have to say

And I ain’t wasting breath

To defend my moves

When none of them were lethal

Those that treat you a bit too kind

Are the most scheming of people

So what was your game here

All along

If the act can slip so quick?

I’ve known bigger monsters before you

Much more smart and slick

In order to destroy someone

You need some intelligence about you

Some invasive care, some sick wit

Something that draws them in

And you never drown them

Before you teach them how to swim

Because if they’ve got the skills to manage

And you destroy them against that

They’ll question everything about themselves

And there’s no coming back

But your heart made its way to sleeve

So I read you like a pamphlet

I won’t indulge your tantrum

And you cannot stand it

Soon we’ll just be memories

Somethings that once happened

I had high rise respect and love for you

But those steel boots have stomped

And now it’s flattened.
