It mattered more back then
And I give it some welly, I did
Writing odes and playing shows
But it went by so quick
We’d get dolled up to collect chips
Cook carbonara and gossip
Piss off neighbours at sun’s tip
Polish arse to a guitar’s rip
Pose pretty and pose fast
Chose city and wings’ clip
But we made magic, made art
Before suddenly it all flipped
Smoked straights on Ally Pally’s grass
Glow Club hit bits summer missed
I skipped away, back to my evergreen dark
Without a proper goodbye kiss
Different things matter now
But the sentiment mimics
No more end of corridor
We need Mick Shagger to visit
I’ve been reciting my lines
Revisiting my glitz
Booking grandiose reunions
With heartfelt promise
I could write a thousand songs
Flick through a million slips
Meet a bajillion people
But they wouldn’t even touch your greatness
All married off and all a bit lonely
Maybe we need each other to exist
Let’s make it matter like it did
And turn it into something creative
Get on a frock and go go boot
To sit on the sofa and live
We did take that small hiatus
But we got much more to give.
