Judging Jubilation

When you’re constantly being motivational

You’re reminding everyone how shit it is on repeat

Asking me to hold on, to push through

To wait for you to come and defeat

The evils that wait on toe round every corner’s crease

It’s lovely what you’re saying

Lyrical and deep

Fluffy, soft and seeped in trope

You’re better than this, or so I’d hoped

But even greatness fleets

We could all do with a cheer up

All benefit from a boost

But what will your flowery caption serve me

When the chickens come home to roost?

I see you’ve achieved a lot this year

Shed the skins that drug you beneath

Dried the tap, cleaned your lungs of crap

Slapped that stick from the bosom of your teeth

Got that job, bought that plot

Flew to a few new five star states

And still every time you promise me it’ll get better

All I feel is hate

When you compliment my resilience

How you applaud my strength

Clap and gush for my darkened stuff

What I did to crawl out that trench

The pledge that good is nearing its debut

Where insecurity won’t remember me or you

Struggles, scares and stresses will dissolve

You won’t even care you’re getting old

And everyday will feel worthwhile

You’ll even recoup a bit of that wonder

You over-exercised as a child

As much as I’d like to return the celebration

Pat your back for all you’ve survived

Sometimes frugality can be honoured

Can’t indulge that Godly handjob of pride

Because life is hard, and I am hardened

Decay can rot the purest soul

Sunshine quickly turns to sleet

And no one heeds the wisdom they were told

Babies get their brains blown out

Another city falls to dust

More people buy, more shit is sold

You got bread, but have you got the crust?

I appreciate the optimism

I just can’t help but source its roots

Life is shit, deal with it

Whatever happened to good old truth?
