Old Tunes

I can only stand the old tunes

Listen to what I’m used to

Know the words,

The riffs, the licks

Still it’s got the magic

To move new

I hear with the same ears

But I just think of the brain

It once moved through

I’ll never be the same again

No point hammering on

That loose screw

What is it you’re looking for?

What is it you got playing?

You said you never had dreams before

And I find that amazing

How someone can engulf the world

And never picture glory

But you look ahead, not like me

Replaying the same old story

I used to watch films on repeat

Couldn’t bare change out the disk

And every time I’d rewind I’d find

All these things I’d missed

There’s been so many happenings now

So much stuff to consider

Too much came in, too much booted out

I’ve lost the will to figure

But I ain’t screen staring

Or tunes blaring

Ain’t got the energy

To indulge

Not dolled up darling

Daring or charming

Prefer taking the makeup off

As I unfold

I don’t want to be reminded of my dreams

Don’t wanna think about missed opportunities

Be beaten with that stick of stuck

I’ve found that instead of tears that drown

Or belly laughs that pound

It’s better to not give a fuck

You know what that’s taken from me?

All these pretty little quirks

Instead of trying something cool and new

I’d rather be safe with what I know works

That’s why I’m on the classic albums

The songs that’ve ran through thick and thin

The problem with that is

I’m missing out on the brilliance

That new experience brings…
