Capture

Want to document life

So when it winds down you’re reminded

Of the time’s the sunshine blinded

Of that moment your union collided

When you laughed off what they derided

When you let that spark illuminate

Instead of the usual fate where you hide it

You take photos, you record

And when it’s captured, you snap more

Don’t share them, just hoard

Because they give you a bit of fun

When you’re bored

So often you’re wondering what the point is

Why we chase, why we settle, why we go

Just learn so there’s more to know

And just forget so the pain don’t grow

Too many examples to follow

Too many bitter truths to swallow

Too much anger and so much fear

But you weren’t considering that

Sat here

You were just watching, just feeling

Took a photo to give the moment meaning

Because you’ll look back on that

And laugh over how you grew from seedling

The camera will cover all bloom

It’ll capture the room

Flush with the flash, could stack

Your life to the ceiling

You can criticise the blue light eyes

But not all of us remember so crystal

I aim my iPhone at the world

Like a cowboy does a pistol

It don’t take away from my seeing

My feeling, my listening

My touch, my kiss, my pull away

But I’d like to be able to prove myself

And have something to look back on

When I need something to look back on

One day

You can’t live behind a screen

But what if you live within it?

Get details right down to the spot on my chin

How fat I was, or how thin

And the exact minute

Where I was and what that place meant

How my elbows tucked

Or my knees bent

How we put an arm round each other

Or lips pressed together

I’ll have these moments

To cherish forever.
