You’re no longer eyeballing the world with wonder
You’re grabbing it by the pinkened neck
Lands you on your arse, sometimes, don’t it?
But you’re already on the look out for what’s next
There will be tears, oh of course
Can’t expect anything to be cushioned
But that’s another lesson you’ll learn
As I kiss what burns and we keep pushing
There’s so many revolting things looming
Behind the corners you peep with flashed teeth
Too many nasty things that’ll bite your fingers
Before that little seeking hand retreats
How long can I keep you close?
Keep you away from the darkness that creeps
And how will I ever show you what’s good
If I don’t let you near the concepts I teach?
You refill my own innocence
Make me laugh at nothing again
Bring twinkle to concrete
And real feeling to the pretend
I know I get angry when the coffee spills
Or you start screaming half way though the drive
But the growling love that floods me when you smile
Makes those human temptations to erupt go skive
I’ve tried all the drugs and every style
Seeking something that I never knew grew within
I feel a type of euphoria you can’t buy
As I hold you, skin to skin
I embody mother, I’ve become another
As I feel you clinging to my shins
Soon you’ll not need me to stabilise
And to that I don’t know what to think
But I’ll always be here to come home to
Whether you’re to my knees or towering above
These moments will pass like beats of heart
And there’ll just never be enough
You seize this life my boy
You show it you’re made of magic stuff
If skin gets grazed, or you feel lost and dazed
I’ll be here to teach you, no too many times, what’s love.
