When I shut my eyes I see darkness
But when I squeeze them I see glitter
Like first taste of your lips, grenadine sips
Then tongue started to spit bitter
Do you rage the war
Finish on even score
And come out fitter?
Or do you plead for peace?
Give what it is you seek
Give trophy to the weak and the winner?
It is nice to triumph
To victor as you’ve earnt
But is the title worth
Leaving the competition slimmer?
Because I can ignite until burnt
And love until hurt
Have combat patience
As I let prey simmer
Collect my weapons
All your forgotten confessions
All your tiny moments that fell to air
Let them loose to pounce
The second you give up an ounce
Of tender love or ever care
Dare me to be nice again
Challenge me to compliment and share
Because maybe
If there’s a thing to beat
I’ll actually try to dream out
This nightmare
But without that fire
Singeing my derrière
I’m finding it hard to hold you there
I wish I was that heartfelt dolly
That let away every folly
And just fiddled with my hair
But a hard world makes a hard girl
And after a while
I kind of liked
Letting my nasty bones lay bare
We go tit for tat, hit for bat
Until the game stops being fair
But when has this ever been fair?
I love you like moonglow
Loves a black room
As it parades light along forgotten crevice
I love that you still love me
Even after seeing beneath
Kind initial lies unbridled menace
But I don’t love that you bring this out
Don’t love that love makes
This quickened pulse
Boom under my dampened chest
Like the racing pendant of a necklace
Don’t love that in careful vindictiveness
My words have turned
Completely reckless
I want to make you feel good again
Match compliment to the man you are
Shut my eyes and not need to squeeze
Because although the glitter is pretty
It’s just holding tears at bay
Are we really having to go over
What’s gone wrong
Just in some slightly different way?
I wonder, do you ever get the glitter too?
Or do pin pricks never
Poke your soul?
Maybe if I keep lashes parted
I’ll finally see what I miss when I blink
And figure out
What I don’t know.
