Stuttered

I was making to catch up

Had all my stories ready

Was gonna pace myself

Let them spill out steady

Some funny things

Some gossip

Some banal, some messy

A few bits that made me smile

And others I let stress me

Just as I finished training my tongue

I heard the gravel turn

The door unlock

The stairs rattle and rock

Knew I finally had ears to burn

But you kissed my cheek

Before I could even speak

When will I ever fucking learn

Not seen you most the week

But my argument’s don’t treat

Because I live off what you

Go out and earn

So I can yearn for chit chat

Wish that you’d get back

This is just one thing

You’ll never share

I need to make like you

Instead of cosplay sleuth

And simply not care

But what happens when

The talking stops?

How much of that connection

Whittles and drops?

How many secrets can the body

Really hold?

And how much magic

Just doesn’t get told?
